Best Night Vision Scope

1. ATN X-Sight II HD 5-20 Smart Day/Night Vision Scope

Admittedly, the name may be a bit of a mouthful, but the ATN X-Sight II HD 5-20 is definitely a night vision rifle scope that it’s worth learning more about.

First and foremost, the digital capabilities of this scope are incredibly impressive – day and night vision is available in HD, making it a perfect choice if you’re looking for a dual-purpose scope that can greatly improve your prowess whatever time of day (or night) it is. The magnification is impressive too at 5-20, making this a suitable choice if you’re looking for a long-range option.

Digging deeper into the possibilities offered by the ATN X-Sight II HD 5-20, there are a range of additional options that are sure to be hugely beneficial to any hunter. The Ballistic Calculator, for example, helps to take the guesswork out of making your shot, and performs extremely well when you’re short on time.

Furthermore, the Smart Range Finder claims to be able to identify your target within two clicks, while the ‘smooth zoom’ feature helps you to stay on target with sophisticated magnification.

Moving beyond the realm of lining up a shot itself, the ATN X-Sight II HD 5-20 is also able to record video, capture photos, and even stream your latest hunting trip via Wi-Fi. While this it could be argued these features go above and beyond the basic requirements of your average night vision scope, they definitely fall into the category of “nice to have”, and most hunters are sure to enjoy exploring the possibilities they offer.

Given the features and functionality offered by this scope, it’s no surprise that the ATN X-Sight II HD 5-20 is at the higher end of the price range – though still incredibly reasonable, as night vision scopes go. The price varies somewhat, but you’ll usually need to pay between $600-$700 for this model, which given its abilities, is indisputably a good deal.

Here is a really good video on the ATN X-Sight II HD 5-20:

2. Sightmark Photon RT Digital Night Vision Scope

If you’re looking for a night vision scope that is packed with incredible specifications, then the Sightmark SM18015 is definitely worth considering.

The specs for this model are truly incredible; 4.5x42s digital night vision should more than meet any hunter’s needs, while the fantastic 640×480 LCD display makes finding your target a breeze.

Impressively, Sightmark believe that the in-built 850nm LED IR illuminator allows users to find targets up to 220 yards away even in total darkness – a big claim, but one that this night vision rifle scope seems more than capable of delivering on.

Furthermore, the image remains clear and easy to read even when used at greater distances; Sightmark have clearly focused on providing a device that really does what it says it will, rather than leaning on jargon without actually doing the work to deliver a great user experience.

As we’ve mentioned, the core basics work very well, but there’s more to this night vision scope than may initially meet the eye. In particular, the in-built video and sound recording and integrated Wifi are nice touches; not essential, of course, but it’s always good to boost functionality, and the Sightmark achieves this goal with ease.

Finally, it is worth noting that the Sightmark offers the supplementary extras of Wifi and video record capabilities at a relatively low price point; you can usually expect to pay around $650 for this scope, which is more than reasonable. Given the price point and the decent quality, this scope is best considered a high-to-mid-range option, and could be particularly useful for a user who already has a basic night vision scope and is looking to move up to the next level in terms of features.

3. ATN X-Sight II HD 3-14x Smart Day/Night Vision Scope

Many of the features found on the ATN X-Sight II HD 3-14 are similar to those offered on the 5-20 as described above. As with the 5-20, the 3-14 offers a great color range, day and night vision in HD resolution, and enhancements such as the Ballistic Calculator and Smart Range Finder are also present and work extremely well.

While all of these features are undeniably useful and relatively simple to use; you might need to read the manual a few times. Making the most of the features is fairly intuitive and will soon become second nature.

So far, so similar – so what’s the difference between the two scopes? The main point of separation is the magnification; 3-14 for this model compared to 5-20 for the first we’ve mentioned. In truth, there is no objective way of saying which of these is “better”; both are incredibly useful in different ways.

What we will say is that the 3-14 model magnification is crisp, clear, and highly capable, and there are benefits to be enjoyed thanks to the smaller lens size.

Speaking of, one particular benefit of the ATN X-Sight II HD 3-14x is that it is pleasantly lightweight – no doubt partially due to the smaller lenses – which makes it ideal if you prefer to be active while hunting rather than remaining stationary. Given that digital night vision scopes can sometimes tend towards the heavy and cumbersome, the fact that such a feature-packed scope is available at a manageable weight is definitely noteworthy.

Finally, the price consideration. Interestingly, there is little to choose between the 3-14 and its cousin, the 5-20, so again, personal preference and requirements should be your guide here. You can usually expect to pay around $600 for the 3-14; not entry-level, but nevertheless a fair price for what is sure to be a very useful piece of equipment.

4. Armasight Vampire 3X Night Vision Rifle Scope

First and foremost, the Armasight Vampire 3X is the most expensive night vision scope we have reviewed. However, while it may be the most expensive, there’s good reason for its price point.

Given we have already noted the higher cost of this scope when compared to the others we have reviewed, it may be somewhat surprising to learn that the Armasight eschews many of the more hi-tech digital features available with the lower-priced models. Instead, this scope focuses on its basic function, seeking to deliver outstanding night vision as its main priority.

While this may initially sound a little disappointing, in actuality, it’s an undeniable asset that greatly benefits overall usability. Featuring an all-glass IR transmission and multi coated optics, this is a high-end piece of equipment that produces crystal-clear images that make hunting at night far simpler than most have ever imagined it could be.

While somewhat heavier than its competitors, there are undoubted usability advantages to the Armasight that counteract this potential downside. Utilizing CORE technology, the scope is robust and easy to use, and is particularly suited to use in adverse weather conditions thanks to a water and fog resistant design. Along the same lines, the scope also continues to perform well in all temperatures; it operates effectively in conditions as low as- 40°C  and as high as +50 °C.

Of course, there is the price to consider; at around $790, the Armasight is close to the upper reaches of our $1,000 limit. However, if you’re looking for a night vision scope that goes above and beyond to deliver a great experience to its user, you should find that the cost is more than justified.

5. Yukon Nvrs Titanium 2.5X50 Varmint Hunter Night Vision Scope

At first, the Yukon Nvrs 2.5X50 seems like a fairly unassuming night vision scope. A quick glance at its specifications – which we will discuss more in a moment – demonstrate it’s clearly capable, but its price and overall design is rather modest. It’s not a flashy, futuristic-looking scope, but looks can be deceiving, and the Yukon Nvrs 2.5×50 has plenty to offer any hunter.

First, those specs are indeed rather good; 2.5 magnification and a 50mm objective lens deliver great image quality, and the Pulse™ infrared illuminator helps to provide good image quality even when used in total darkness. Furthermore, it is obvious that while the price has been kept at the lower end of the scale, no stone has been left unturned in terms of design; the scope has a durable titanium body and is versatile enough to use on a wide range of different rifles.

So, while the the Yukon Nvrs 2.5×50 scope is not a hyper-equipped model that is capable of making night hunting incredibly simple, it is nevertheless a decent piece of equipment – and it’s remarkably budget-friendly, too. You should expect to pay below the $400 mark for this scope, which seems reasonable given its specifications; it’s still a quality piece of equipment, but goes without the extra features that can mean the price is pushed closer to four figures. As a result, the Yukon Nvrs 2.5×50 is suitable for most hunters and – most importantly – most hunters’ budgets.

6. Firefield FF16001 NVRS 3×42 Night Vision Riflescope

If we were to begin by describing the Firefield FF16001 as a “middle of the range” night vision scope, it would likely sound as if we were damning this scope with faint praise. However, there is something to be said for options that walk the line; scopes that are well-designed and easy to use even for a beginner, but without the non-essential extras that tend to be featured in more expensive models.

There are plenty of reasons to appreciate this Firefield model. To begin with, it does the basics well – the 3x magnification works well, the in-built IR offers performance even in difficult conditions, and the image quality is generally excellent.

The same is true of the build; the titanium body feels like it can withstand a few accidental knocks, but is still lightweight enough to use comfortably. The digital bells and whistles may be absent, but what is present is user-friendly, and should greatly enhance any hunting experience.

Of course, any scope at this price is going to have its limitations. As we have seen, our first three digital options tend to work well in daylight, giving them a 24-hour functionality that is particularly useful for hunting trips. The last three, including the Firefield, do not offer this functionality – in fact, you will need to be especially careful when handling these scopes during the day, as some of the internal light-intensifying components are rather sensitive to, you guessed it; light.

However, if you’re already happy with your daytime setup and are just looking for a scope that offers tremendous night vision capabilities, the Firefield is should help you achieve this goal for a reasonable price of around $430. Overall, this is a simple scope that nevertheless delivers on its main selling point, and does so at a price that should be suitable for most budgets.

In conclusion

We chose the options above in order to cover the full spectrum of price points and functionality. Some models offer more advanced or supplementary features; others focus on the core night vision capabilities – and it’s entirely up to you, the buyer, to decide which is most suited to your specific needs.

However, the one thing that anyone looking for a cheap night vision scope under $1000 can be certain of is that all of the models above perform incredibly well within their specifications. So whether you choose to go high-end, or prefer a more entry-level device, you can be confident that any of the scopes above can offer great benefits to your hunting experience.
